How to make Easter exciting for your little ones!

How to make Easter exciting for your little ones!

Okay okay, so I don't have any little ones running around YET, but I still think Easter is such a wonderful time of celebration and there are so many ways to make it exciting for your little ones!  It's about one month away so this gives you plenty of time to make this Easter exciting! If you like what I share below, please check out my boards called Little Feet and Home for the Holidays on Pinterest!

First and Foremost, Easter is about JESUS!

Easter has always been more than a white fluffy bunny and candy-filled eggs, Easter is a holiday celebrating Jesus's death and Resurrection! Jesus took on ALL of the sins of the world and through his death and Resurrection, He proved that God is the Alpha and the Omega and that Satan has lost and will lose in the end! If you're looking for more ways to talk to and teach your kids about Jesus, check out this awesome blog! If your kids are tech-savvy and you can't seem to get them off of your iPad, try putting one of these apps in front of them! Check out this cool blog for ways to make Easter more about JESUS!

Weekend Success

Weekend Success
This weekend was glorious! I got a lot done and I got to do it all with my fantastic husband; I'm so blessed. On Saturday we slept in, which for us is about 7:30-8:00 am; we're just so used to waking up early during the week that we don't even know how to sleep in anymore, then we exercised. I roller bladed while Andrew jogged, which was awesome since it was FINALLY around 60 degrees! Then we got cleaned up and headed to the store where I completed my final grocery store run for the month. This was also a success because we spent waaaay less by going to the store only two times and by meal planning! Meal planning helped save us money because I was shopping with a new purpose, having exactly enough meals for the whole month, whereas before I was shipping to keep the cabinets and fridge stocked, which in the end was just shopping to buy food, whether we ate it immediately or not.

On Sunday we woke up, went to church, I taught Sunday school while Andrew sat in Bible class, and then we watched our friend's daughter get baptized before heading home. We spent the day relaxing and working on our homework for our Financial Peace University class that we take on Monday nights at our church, before heading to our evening Lenten Bible class called Renew. What a productive weekend!

Last night in Renew, we talked about what we were giving up or taking on for this Lenten season. I had decided to sacrifice an hour of sleep in the mornings to be able to work out and spend time with Andrew (either talking or reading the Bible together). In class we had to express how our progress with our Lenten goals were going, and up until today, I had only successfully gotten up early about twice, so mine hasn't been easy, but it's definitely worth it. This morning I made sure to wake up and stick to my plan! I know it is worth it to be able to spend extra time with Andrew!

This Weekend I...
ü  Exercised (Saturday, Sunday and Monday!)
ü  Enjoyed the warm(er) weather
ü  Meal Planned for the rest of the month
ü  Second and final grocery shopping trip for the month
ü  Spent quality time with my husband
ü  Read some Bible Passages

How did your weekend goals go - were you productive?

Weekend Plans

Andrew and I don't have kids yet, but we are both busy just the same, so when we get the opportunity to have a quiet weekend, we enjoy it. I know this coming weekend will still be filled with grading papers and grocery shopping, but an open weekend to me is a chance to pursue some goals.

I decided as of January 1st, 2014 that I was going to get healthier, exercise more, be a better friend, listen more, become a better Christian, and make my husband breakfast in bed, which I did on New Year’s Day! (It was awesome to check off one of my goals on day one!) On these free weekends I try to accomplish steps towards some of the goals I listed above, whether it's exercising one day, making a healthy meal or sitting down and opening my Bible another day, it's all about the little triumphs that we make towards achieving a greater goal.

In February, Andrew and I went to the grocery store 7 times..... 7 TIMES!! UGH! So March 1st I sat down and meal planned so that I would only have to go to the store twice a month, and so far it's worked, minus an impromptu trip to the store to get ingredients I needed to make something for work. So this weekend will be my second planned trip for the month. For those of you who have yet to try meal planning, it's kind of addicting! Here's how I did it.

1.     Find a few recipes that fit your cook-time schedule (On busy nights we have a good 20 minute cook-time window, so I try to get meals that I can cook in under 20 minutes)
2.     Print out a calendar and write what meals you hope to eat when (It's okay if you end up switching meals during the week, this is meant to help you see how much food you need to buy!) - I planned to have some of the meals twice in the two week span so I doubled the quantity of ingredients
3.     Inventory what ingredients you may already have at home before assuming you need to buy some at the store
4.     Make one giant list of all of the ingredients you need to get at the store
5.     add other miscellaneous items if needed
6.     Print coupons if you use them
7.     Find a block of time, probably an hour, to go to the store (this may be a long time for you, but I actually spent two hours in the store because not only did I  have a longer list than usual but I was also trying a new grocery store for the first time)
8.     Good Luck!

What goals have you set for yourself that you could take positive steps toward accomplishing this weekend?

Serving Your Spouse

The last few months I have been going through small bouts of depression and loneliness, and nothing has been more painful than going through these feelings amidst knowing just how blessed I am. The Lord has blessed me with good health and the health of my loved ones, safety, education, freedom, love and a wonderful husband. I can honestly say that I have everything I have ever hoped for and I am very blessed. I always dreamt of myself meeting Prince Charming at a young age and getting married – and when I almost thought that dream wasn’t going to ever come true, I met Andrew, and we were drawn to each other by an inexplicable pull, it was in fact, “a God thing”. So why, when surrounded by love and blessings was I feeling so alone, blemished and sad? Andrew and my parents consoled me many times throughout the short battle and I couldn’t seem to snap out of it. But a lot of my loneliness and sadness stemmed from our location. We are away from family, away from friends, trying to make new friends, and we work and participate in a lot so our time together during the week is sparse. I told Andrew that I was the happiest on weekends, when it was just him and I and we got to spend quality time together for hours at a time.

This weekend, while attending the Art of Marriage retreat, I finally decided that I had had enough of feeling sad; I needed more time with my husband and more of God in my life. Every time I felt sad at home and I told Andrew that we weren’t spending enough time together during the week, I expected him to say he would make more time, and he did, but was it Andrew and his schedule that should have to change? This weekend it finally dawned on me, I should be the one changing my schedule for him, not the other way around. So I told him that I would start waking up at 5am with him, even though I didn’t need to be up until 6:30 am, so that we could talk, go for a jog, read the Bible, something, anything, to feel like I was serving my husband more than just making him dinner at night.

Today was day 1 of waking up early, and right after daylight savings time too, it wasn’t easy. But Andrew let me sleep a little longer and woke me when he was out of the shower so we could sit on the couch and read the Bible together. I offered to stay awake until he left for work but I think he knew how tired I was and let me go back to sleep – see what I mean? He’s wonderful.

In so many little ways we can serve our spouse without them even knowing it or requesting it. One of the hardest things to learn is that when you’re quick to blame your spouse or want to see a change in them, the first thing you should do is try to change yourself – that’s how God works. You can’t pray asking God to fix them, when really, God needs to help you fix yourself before He can work on someone else.

How can you work on yourself to serve your spouse today?
